SafeStain™Reagent
This is a new and safe nucleic acid staining reagent for detection of double-stranded DNA, single-stranded DNA and RNA in agarose gels. It is a safe alternative to ethidium bromide (EB) for visualization of DNA or RNA in agarose gels. SafeStain™ is non-carcinogenic, is as sensitive as EB (a toxic, potent mutagen) and used the same way in agarose gel electrophoresis. Because this dye has the same excitation maximum as EB (290-320 nm), you generate equivalent signal in your current gel documentation system. SafeStain™ emits green fluorescence when bound to dsDNA and red fluorescence when bound to ssDNA or RNA. Other dyes are safe, but not all are stable in storage; they can also exhibit excitation characteristics that could require costly adjustments to your data acquisition system. SafeStain™ is the only nucleic acid stain that is both safe and stable when stored at room temperature!
